About this cake
Every bead is rolled, dried, lustred and placed by hand. A 2 lb cake carries several hundred of them, set in graduated rows so the beading is dense at the base and thins as it climbs. There is no mould and no shortcut; this is the most labour-intensive cake in the mayoun range.
The orange base is finished smooth before beading so the gold has a clean field to sit against. Edible gold lustre is brushed on after placement, which is what gives the beads a real metallic sheen rather than a flat yellow.
It is a jewellery cake more than a floral one, and it suits a mayoun where the bride’s look is heavy on gold — jhoomar, tikka, choorian. Photographed close, the beadwork reads exactly like a gota border.

Is the gold on the beads real edible gold?
We use food-grade edible gold lustre as standard, which is completely safe to eat. Genuine edible gold leaf can be added on request for a small extra charge.
