About this cake
Two fondant sheets are draped together here rather than one: maroon underneath, orange folded over it, so the pleats show both colours the way a shot-silk dupatta does when it moves. Layering two sheets without them tearing is the difficult part, and it is done by hand while the fondant is still warm.
The gold edging is piped along every visible fold line, which sharpens the drape and stops the two deep colours from flattening into each other under low marquee lighting.
Maroon suits an evening mehndi where the décor runs dark and heavy — velvet seating, brass, low lamps. Against that the cake reads as part of the set rather than a bright interruption.
