About this cake
Two techniques meet on this one. The roses are built petal by petal in sugar paste — each flower is five to seven petals thinned, curled and layered around a cone — and then clustered asymmetrically so they crown one corner instead of ringing the cake.
The empty side is left deliberately bare so the Urdu calligraphy has room to breathe. Written in gold or maroon edible ink, it usually carries the couple’s names or a short line for the mayoun. The composition is the craft: flowers weighted to one side, script balancing the other.
Sugar roses are heat-stable, unlike piped buttercream ones, so this design travels well to a marquee or an outdoor mayoun in summer without softening.
